RAG Against the Machine

In keeping with Cardiff's RAG week, we hosted another charity gig in local restaurant and bar, The North Star. We decided to make the event free of charge and raise money by selling cakes and delicious bakes to complement the drinks. The music proved to be very popular- we had a great mix of bands and acoustic artists that kindly volunteered their time to entertain us! The music sandwiched a short interim in which everybody watched the Rugby too! We sold out of cakes and raised a great amount of money to contribute towards RAG efforts (TBC); it was an all-around, fantastic evening. Many thanks to The North Star (http://www.thenorthstarcardiff.com/) for having us, the very talented musicians, as well as the lovely bunch of people who came to show their support!

BIG KIDS and BANDS

Well obviously we had to do something for CHILDREN IN NEED! It's a big event on our calender! We hosted a fantastic charity gig at Ten Feet Tall- Cardiff, aptly named 'BIG KIDS and BANDS' where five acts entertained our guests with music ranging from rock, jazz and pop, to ska. It was such a great night, the talented bands and musicians went down a treat and the 2-4-1 cocktails encouraged the audience to dance along. MOST IMPORTANTLY we raised an unbelievable £371 for Children in Need!!! A huge thanks to Ten Feet Tall (http://10feettall.co.uk/) for donating the venue and providing a brilliant sound guy, thank you to all the acts who didn't receive a penny and thank you to everyone who came to show their support!!!

Thursday 7th November 2013

As evidenced by numerous pictures of our members showing off their baking skills, in light of last year's popular BBC Great British Bake Off, we decided to host our own baking competition for last year's charity of the year, Sparkle. We chose the theme of 'Childhood Treats' and asked members to turn up to a local venue, The Vulcan Lounge,  with their marvellous creations to be judged and sold all for charity! The winners would receive some small goodies, and you can check out the main article on our 'articles and press' page!

We had many delicious entries such as Kinder Bueno Brownies, Haribo Cupcakes and Peanut Butter and Jam sponge sandwiches. However two incredibly talented members, Manon Jenkins and Dina Fathoala, clinched the winning spot with a jaw-dropping giant Willy Wonka chocolate sponge. See the pictures- it's truly magnificent and tasted even better than it looked (which was no mean feat)! We also raised a respectable £80, with a generous donation received from The Vulcan Lounge itself!

Thankyou to all our entries and supporters who came along and thank you to The Vulcan Lounge (http://chameleongroupcardiff.com/the-vulcan-lounge/) for having us!
